Classify Before You Share
Classify data by sensitivity, identifiability, and destination before sharing it.
Sharing risk is usually a context shift, not a file-format problem. Identify the data Name the data before moving it. Customer records, employee details, credentials, financial figures, strategy notes, and screenshots carry different obligations. Check identifiability Ask whether the data points back to a person, customer, employee, supplier, or account. Direct identifiers are obvious; combinations of details can identify people too. Check destination Risk rises when data leaves an approved system, crosses to a vendor, enters an AI tool, becomes publicly accessible, or lands in a place with weaker retention and access controls.
