Sell the Job, Not the Guitar
Identify the functional, emotional, and social job behind an instrument purchase before recommending a product.
The sale starts when you learn what progress the customer is trying to make. Functional job Ask what the instrument must help them do in the next week or month. In retail, this can be concrete: survive band placement, practice quietly in an apartment, get through a Sunday set, replace an unreliable snare stand, or record a clean demo.
