Separate Governance from Management
Distinguish board-level IT governance from management-level IT execution using Evaluate, Direct, Monitor.
The governance move is to climb one level up without losing evidence. IT governance fails when senior forums drift into operational detail because the real governance question is not explicit. ISO/IEC 38500 gives a simple pattern: Evaluate the current and future use of IT, Direct management through policy and decision rights, and Monitor whether performance and conformance match the direction.
