Separate the Storm from the Filter
Separate divergent idea generation from convergent evaluation during a brainstorm.
The facilitator's first job is phase protection. Storm first A brainstorm is not a debate with nicer stationery. It is a temporary production system for options. During the storm, the target is volume, variety, and association. People should be able to say the incomplete thing, the adjacent thing, and the thing that needs another person's build. Filter second Evaluation is still essential. The mistake is letting it arrive before the group has anything worth evaluating.
