Respond to escalated behavior with safety, predictability, and co-regulation before correction
When threat is high, fewer words often teach more than a lecture. Safety First Create physical and emotional safety: space, calm tone, predictable limit, and a known option. Do not crowd, shame, or debate. Voice And Choice Offer bounded choices that preserve safety. Choice is not surrender; it is a way to help the student re-enter control. Teach Later Replacement behavior, repair, and accountability still matter. They work best after the student can process them.
