Match the Method to the Context

Select a strategic thinking approach based on whether the context is clear, complicated, complex, or chaotic.

Do not use the same thinking tool for every kind of problem. Clear When cause and effect are obvious, apply known practice. Overthinking clear work wastes time and creates fake complexity. Complicated When expertise can determine a good answer, analyze. Use specialists, models, benchmarks, and decomposition. The answer may be hard, but it is discoverable.
