The Neutral Frame That Lowers Heat
Use a neutral process frame to clarify purpose, roles, and ground rules before problem solving.
The first minute of a conflict meeting sets the rules of the conflict. If the opening frame is vague, the loudest person defines the process. If the opening frame is neutral and specific, the process can hold pressure without collapsing into blame. Purpose Name the work to be done, not the verdict to be reached. 'Understand the handoff breakdown and agree on a repair' is safer than 'Find out who caused the miss.' Purpose focuses attention on a solvable problem.
