The boundary is where organisms move, not where the wall begins. Patient Zone The patient zone includes the patient and the immediate surfaces temporarily dedicated to them. A bed rail, call bell, over-bed table, monitor button, and IV pole can all function as patient-zone surfaces because they are touched during care and are close to the patient. Health-Care Area The health-care area contains shared surfaces and equipment used across patients: corridor workstations, medication counters, shared computers, notes trolleys, and mobile devices.
