Make Learners Pull, Not Reread

A facilitator gives learners three minutes to reread the debrief model before practice. Retrieval practice asks learners to answer from memory first, then check and correct. Rereading creates familiarity, which can masquerade as readiness. It does not test whether the learner can access the move under pressure. Hide the answer Ask learners to close the guide and write the three debrief questions from memory. The act of pulling from memory is the learning event.
