Update The Law Before You Answer
Use a source-control habit to avoid relying on stale or negatively treated authority.
Found is not finished. The authority still needs a current-status check and a fit check. Status Has later authority changed the rule, limited it, criticized it, or superseded it? Record the treatment and date checked. Fit Does the surviving rule match your jurisdiction, procedural posture, party type, and material facts? Weight Is the authority binding, persuasive, background, or merely explanatory? A current case can still have limited weight. Trail Write the check into the research log. A reviewer should be able to see why the authority was safe enough to use.
