Use SWOT Before Changing the Seasonal Assortment

Use SWOT to make a grounded seasonal assortment decision.

Principle: Do not let the loudest category story become the assortment strategy. Strengths and weaknesses are internal These are things the store controls or can build: staff knowledge, bench capacity, vendor performance, signage, care labor, and inventory accuracy. Opportunities and threats are external These are market conditions: neighborhood demand, restrictions, competitors, weather patterns, local events, and customer trends. The decision comes after the split A quadrant is not the answer by itself. The useful move is matching them: use a strength to capture an opportunity, fix a weakness before scaling, or reduce exposure to a real threat.
