Design From the Task, Not the Screen

Frame a UX design decision around the user's task, context, and success criteria.

Principle: start with the task before you judge the interface. The User Name the person narrowly enough that their constraints become visible. "Buyer" is vague. "Office manager renewing licenses during month-end close" gives you pressure, risk, and likely knowledge. The Task State the progress the person is trying to make. A task is not "use the dashboard." It is "find the account whose renewal risk changed since yesterday and decide who owns the follow-up."
