Treat ANN As A Tradeoff
Explain why approximate vector indexes require paired quality and latency targets.
Approximation needs a quality budget and a speed budget. Exact Search Exact search compares the query against every candidate vector. It is a useful truth source for samples, but often too expensive at production scale. ANN Search Approximate indexes inspect a smaller candidate path. They make search practical, but the returned top_k may differ from exact nearest neighbors. Paired SLO A service-level objective should name both latency and recall.
