Why Apologies Fail Without Responsibility
Explain why responsibility is the core component of an effective apology.
A repair apology needs a subject, a verb, and an impact. A common workplace apology removes the actor: 'This was confusing,' 'Things got tense,' or 'Mistakes were made.' Those lines may sound diplomatic, but they make the listener carry the interpretive load. The listener has to decide whether you understand what happened or are simply smoothing the room.
