Understanding Individual Affect and Cognition in the Workplace

Explain how emotions and thinking patterns influence individual behavior at work.

Individual affect refers to emotions and moods, while cognition encompasses thoughts, beliefs, and mental processing. In organizations, these two factors interact to shape how people perceive situations, make decisions, and interact with colleagues. Understanding this connection helps managers and team members recognize that rational decision-making isn't divorced from emotion—feelings color our interpretations of events.
