Gross Margin Is the First Truth Test
Interpret gross margin as the bridge between P&L performance and unit economics.
Big revenue can still be weak economics. The margin pool Gross profit is revenue minus direct delivery cost. That pool funds the operating expenses below it on the P&L. The unit version Contribution margin applies the same logic to one customer, order, or project. It reveals whether the next unit adds usable profit or just more activity. The cash version When margin is thin, cash strain shows up faster. The company pays people, vendors, refunds, and infrastructure before enough contribution accumulates to cover the operating base.
