Dwell time is not the same as usefulness
Explain why dwell time and similar engagement metrics need quality counter-metrics.
The move: treat dwell time as ambiguous evidence. Dwell time, watch time, session length, and replay behavior can help recommender systems infer interest. They are useful because users often reveal preference through behavior before they give explicit feedback. The trap is assuming the signal has only one meaning. People dwell when they are learning, but also when they are confused. They watch when content is valuable, but also when it is provocative.
